Listen, and let the music carry you somewhere your heart feels free: Lmma Bada Yatathana translated into English (Singer : Lena Chamamyan)
Back in the beloved desert. My laptop, my book, my faithful little speaker, and the vast plains stretching beyond everything I can see. In fact there is nothing but space.
After a long confinement, space becomes worth its weight in gold. ذهب, dahab in Arabic. A word, and a place I love. A different country this time, another stretch of desert, yet the same feeling of coming home.
A friend from Dahab saw my desert story on Instagram and sent me a voice message: “Welcome back to the desert.” Then he played a beautiful tune for me on his guitar, a welcome gift across the distance.
Such a tender thing, to be far away and still feel understood. Somehow, he felt what this space was doing to my heart. I feel safe here. Calm. Taken care of. As though my spirit is being gently washed clean, and true freedom is already close, somewhere along the horizon.
My speaker plays the old song that I love:
لما بدا يتثنى
حبي جماله فتننا
When my beloved appears, swaying gracefully, his beauty enchants us.
The melody tickles my heart so sweetly. I am still longing for that beloved, for the true love I have yet to meet. I don’t know where I will find him. But when I do, I will play this song for him and tell him that, before I knew his face, this was how the thought of him felt.
For now, there is work, there is music, there is the desert’s quiet magic. There is a friend’s guitar welcoming me back. And there is this tenderness reaching me, even here, in all this space.
